  News Detail

The Governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, has pledged to focus on the HIV/AIDS challenge with the same energy he is devoting to developmental efforts in the state that has earned his administration wide acclaim.

He made this commitment in Enugu while commissioning an office building for the Enugu State Action Committee on HIV/AIDS (ENSACA). Nnamani said the HIV/AIDS campaign has not been as effective as the reforms in the other sectors.

According to him, "efforts on HIV/AIDS must succeed in the state because Enugu has one of the highest numbers of health professionals," adding that apart from himself and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), three other commissioners are medical doctors.

Mr Chijioke Okoro, of Strengthening Nigeria's Response (SNR) to HIV/AIDS, commended Nnamani for fulfilling his promise to build an office complex for ENSACA, and enjoined the general public to use the resources and facilities available at the centre.

ENSACA Secretary, Dr Chris Ani, said with the commissioning, the problem of accommodation as a major hindrance to coordination and facilitation mechanism in the fight against HIV/ AIDS in Enugu State has been solved. He also commended Nnamani for his vision in "bequeathing this legacy of renovation and expansion of this brand new office complex to HIV/AIDS control." in the State".
